Should I Fix My Car or Buy a New One?

I do suggest at least exploring the option of buying another car before you put
even more money into a older, out of warranty depreciating asset.

Although I can’t speak for everyone it is very probable that you will never
recover the money that you spend on your current vehicle. In other words if
you took that money and put it towards a new or newer Certified pre-owned vehicle
it may be a more prudent investment.

Consider pending repairs as a sign. Take the cost of the repair, if
completed and use it and your car (as is) as a down payment on a finance OR
lease of a newer car of your choice.

I obviously do not know all the circumstances, but think of it is another
option worth exploring.

What Should I Do If I Have Had Credit Problems in the Past?

People looking to buy a car with past credit challenges do have options. Many banks are willing to overlook some past credit issues. Your options are
based on how you are doing at rebuilding / reestablishing your credit, your
job history, income and the amount of your down payment.

I suggest you do as much of the following as you can:

Do save as much cash as possible to put down on your next car.
See if you can maybe get a cosigner , with good credit, for your car loan.
Avoid at all costs a “buy here…pay here” used car lot. The unknown quality,
high interest and premium you will pay will only complicate your situation.
Continue to make timely payments. Remember your credit history with others
will help what you are trying to accomplish.
